Dental Implants in Shawnee KS
Monticello Family Dental has the experience and skill necessary to build you a new smile and replace dentures or lost teeth with permanent replacements through the use of dental implant procedures. This procedure has helped over 3 million Americans already and another 500,000 every year, to restore their confidence in themselves and their smile. Dental implants lead to an aesthetically pleasing smile that is bright and full, and they also have the functionality and support of original teeth as they are real and permanent.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth. Similar to a regular tooth which has a root and a crown, dental implants have a titanium screw which replaces the root, and a porcelain crown
which acts as the crown. There are many ways that our patients lose their teeth. Decay is the primary reason, but it is not uncommon to have patients come to us after suffering an injury or accident. Fortunately, Dr. Kapoor can replace those mission teeth, regardless of the reason for their absence and restore the look, feel, and functionality of their original teeth.
What Are The Benefits Of Dental Implants?
We rely on our teeth far more than we realize. It is easy and very common for our patients to take their teeth for granted. We use them to speak, eat, chew and bite and not having them there causes us to put additional stress on the remaining teeth which in turn wears them out much faster than normal wear and tear would do. Missing teeth can also cause headaches and jaw pain. Because of these health reasons, it is not to ignore missing teeth. They must be replaced as soon as the patient is able to do so. A dental implant is the most comfortable and permanent solution to replace missing teeth. The implant creates a strong foundation for the replacement teeth and keeps jaws bones health. In addition to looking completely natural, dental implants also offer a wide range of compelling benefits. Other tooth replacement options leave much to be desired in terms of comfort and functionality, they also do nothing to prevent the bone decay that always occurs when teeth are missing.
Unlike the alternatives, dental implants are independently supported, which helps to protect the strength of the dental arch. Dental implants also give patients a new sense of confidence due to the improved aesthetic look of their smile and not having to worry about their false teeth slipping out of place in an embarrassing setting. Research shows that tooth replacement options like dental implants can significantly improve the way we eat, allowing patients to add a more varied diet to their life, filled with crunchy fruits and vegetables. Its generally understood that the aging process is accelerated but a decline in a healthy diet.
Because dental implants are also available in a wide range of styles and configurations, Dr. Kapoor and her team are able to customize tooth replacement options for each and every patient as required by their unique needs.
Are You A Candidate for Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an incredible opportunity for people to regain lifegiving functionality and confidence. Their benefits don't come without significant commitment, however. In order to be considered a candidate for dental implants, you must be wholly dedicated to strict daily oral hygiene. Patients who smoke should seriously consider quitting altogether or at the very least, stop throughout the healing process from the procedure. Smoking drastically reduces the rate at which your mouth is able to heal itself.
Patients who have taken bisphosphonate medications in the past such as Fosamax and Boniva may not be eligible for dental implants since these medications can permanently alter the way the jaw tissue heals, which can put patients at risk for developing significant complications. The best way to discover whether dental implants are right for you is to schedule an appointment
with Monticello Family Dentistry to discuss your medical history, your dental goals, and your current condition.
What To Expect With A Dental Implant Procedure
A titanium implant will be placed in the jawbone to replace the root. After the titanium implant is set, we will need to give the bone time to grow around the implant. During this time, your mouth will continue to heal and create the strong foundation needed to have a successful implant.
A support post, known as an abutment will then be placed into the titanium implant.
The final step is what you will actually see and use as a tooth. A porcelain crown will be connected to the post. This crown will act and look like a genuine tooth and is made to fit precisely in your mouth and match your remaining teeth.
What Do Dental Implants Cost?
Dental implants can be life changing; however, they are a bit pricey in some case because many insurance companies don’t cover the cost of this procedure. From an insurers perspective, the procedure is mostly a cosmetic one. But, when you have a broken or missing tooth, the reasons for getting it replaced are far more than just cosmetic. Replacing missing teeth is needed to keep your mouth and jaw health and to protect the rest of your teeth. Missing teeth can also make chewing and eating uncomfortable.
For most of our patients, dental implants will last a lifetime. Any way you look at it, they are a sound investment. The overall cost across a lifetime is far less when compared to other alternatives, all of which require periodic repair and maintenance.
In a less quantifiable, yet far more sobering perspective, the cost of deciding not to get dental implants while you still have the jaw bone density to qualify for them could be a shortened life span and or reduced quality of life throughout the last quarter of your life. Researchers have been able to correlate many chronic diseases that affect the elderly with poor diet due to inability to consume hard foods.
Our office also provides many financing options that make getting a dental implant more affordable than ever. We are happy to discuss options with you, and we will work with you to figure out the best way for our move forward in receiving dental implants.
